At the end of his second term, Barack Obama is totally devoted to his main election promise, that is to say, to limit the gun violence in the USA. In order to limit the number of deaths due to the excessive use of guns or weapons, President Obama is proposing a measure to reinforce the gun background checks before the sale of a firearm.
Obama is proposing this measure on the wake of his fail 3 years ago when he was unsuccessfully rejected by Congress. Unfortunately, Barack Obama is trying to pass a decree in the same Republican Congress as 2012 who does not seem to have changed its mind about the question of the legislation of firearms.
His fail of 2012 limited his wants to rigidify the legislation and the penalties for the gun violence in the USA but, the Democrat President does not give the impression to have given up on this subject. The 2012 defeat also cost for the country the death of 27 pupils and their teachers in December at a school in Newton. This massacre and every other linked to gun violence in the USA cannot be forgotten. Moreover, gun- violence does not convey a great image of the country even though it is the USA which is concerned.
Barack Obama does not hold the ambition to revoke the Second Amendment of the American Constitution. Yet, President Obama shall certainly dodge it in order to pass his new law. But, as he expected it, Obama’s plan has been stongly lambasted in Congress made of more than fifty percent of Republicans. Favorite Republican candidate for the presidential elections of 2016, Donald Trump, has responded forcefully to President Obama’s allegations. Trump used Obama’s plan as a knock -on effect to reinforce his popularity in the country: he said on January 4th, “Pretty soon you won’t be able to buy guns”. In the presidential campaign, this last-minute measure appeared as a windfall for the Republicans.
The National Rifle Association, (NRA), also claimed that they will find a mistake according to the law in order to annihilate even the idea of modifying the gun industry in the USA.
For the Democrats, they seem to be seduced by the idea of implementing a new law but as Mike Thomson said, as chairman of the gun control in the house, that even if guns would be harder to get, it would be impossible to stop gun violence in the USA. However, without fully stopping it, it would be appreciated to limit it. Although Obama’s popularity is decreasing, at least he would not be blamed for his gun policy.
