Burlesque is an American musical which was written and directed by Steve Antin. It was realeased on November 24th, 2010. It is a recent movie and I hope I will manage to convince you to watch it if you haven’t yet.
The main role is played by Christina Aguilera, a very famous singer that I admire and like a lot. She plays the role of Ali, a young girl with an incredible voice who comes from a modest town. One day, she decides to leave her town hoping that she will fulfill her dreams in Los Angeles and succeed.
In spite of many hardships and an uncertain future, she finds a job as a waitress in the Burlesque Lounge, a very class musical theatre located in the city of the Angels, run by Tess interpreted by the legend Cher who loses her success day by day. Very soon, Ali is enchanted by the wonderful choreographies and by the outfits and she hopes that she will perform on that stage someday.
But Ali will have to cope with many difficulties such as Nikki (Kristen Bell), a dancer of the Burlesque Lounge who hates Ali and who will do everything to take her away from her dream. The barman, also musician, Jack (Cam Gigandet known as Liam in 90210), is boggled by Ali’s talent and will get close to her. With the help of the stage manager (Stanley Tucci) and the host of the parties (Alan Cumming), Ali starts producing on stage and restarts the success of the Burlesque Lounge thanks to her wonderful voice.
While she thought that it was impossible for her to succeed and make her dreams come true, the very attractive Eric Dane (Grey’s Anatomy) shows up, playing the role of Marcus Gerber, a very renowned manager who is really impressed by Ali as a singer, dancer but also as a woman.
As far as I am concerned, Burlesque is my favourite movie. What I liked the most is that Christina Aguilera made her come back by interpreting the role of a young girl who is convinced that she can’t succeed and who disappoints everyone. On the contrary, this movie conveys the message that everyone can succeed in life and that we shouldn’t give up on our dreams. Everything amazed me in this movie : the performances of the actors, the songs, the beautiful suits, the choreographies but also the love story between Ali and Jack which makes you dream from the beginning to the end.
In a nutshell, I advise you to see this movie because it is full of surprises, magical moments and it makes you sing and dance as you have never done in your life.
