Last year, I discovered a new TV show called “Revenge”. The storyline is based on Emily Thorne, a young woman who comes back in the Hamptons after years spent set back. She actually exchanged her real identity, Amanda Clarke, with an old friend of hers in order to avenge herself from the people who killed her father and destroyed her whole family, anonymously.
Mike Kelley, the American producer who came up with the idea of the plot, explained that he took inspiration from the book Le Comte de Monte-Cristo, written in 1844 by Alexandre Dumas.
The main character, Emily Thorne, got placed in many host families and juvenile rehabilitation centers after her father got arrested for a profesional misconduct within his firm, which caused a plane crash and hundreds of victims. Nonetheless, by the age of eighteen, Emily learns that her father got accused of a crime he did not commit and that the people who used to work with him created a whole conspiration against him. Therefore, she comes back in the Hamptons where all of the betrayers live. She will play a game of deceit, seduction, manipulation and might with most people around her in order to achieve her goal : destroy their lives.
Throughout her duty, she will be helped by Nolan Ross, a genius software inventor and a computer hacker. He owes his wealth and success to David Clarke, Emily’s father, who supported him and invested some of his own money into Nolan’s company, NolCorp. Grateful to David, Nolan offers to help his daughter, who is initially reluctant to trust him but over time she accepts his involvement in her revenge activities and becomes his friend.
The main focus of her revenge is over Victoria Greyson, the powerful matriarch of the Grayson family, wife of Conrad Grayson, mother of Daniel and Charlotte. After having an affair with David Clarke, Victoria agreed reluctantly to help Conrad frame him. Despite not knowing Emily’s true identity, Victoria never entirely trusts her and attempts to sabotage Daniel and Emily’s relationship.
But in spite of all her hatred, Emily meets Jack Porter again, her childhood friend for whom she still has feelings.
Two seasons came out already and it has become my favourite TV series. Therefore, if you are looking for a really good drama and psychological thriller series, I highly rocommand you Revenge as it will always keep you thrilled and in suspense.
