Taiwan and Hong Kong
This summer, I went to Taiwan, an island next to China, and Hong Kong, an island located off the southern coast of China. Asia is an very impressive continent because there is a big contrast between civilizations. In Taiwan, I visited the east of the island by car and in Hong Kong, all the famous monuments on the island.
I started by being in Taipei, the capital; there are many shops, many people in the streets. Moreover, there is the “Taipei 101” , a 101-floor landmark skyscraper that claimed the title of world’s tallest building when it opened in 2004.It lost its title on January, 4th, 2010 but it is still in the top ten of the world’s tallest buildings.
Then I went to Hualien, Taitung, and Kenting which are situated in the east of the island. Hualien and Taitung were more traditional, there are many fish restaurant whereas in Kenting, there are many shops, young people and all nights, there are night markets composed of innumerable stalls where we can eat many different sorts of food, buy clothes or play a fairground game to win something or just for fun. People really like playing basket ball there, with a great team spirit.
I just regret that I went there during the season of typhoons. It rained a lot, we just had one sunny week in one month.
In Hong Kong, everything is different. We meet many English people because it was colonized by them. But that is not the most impressive thing in that city : the most impressive is that there are so many skyscrapers !
Streets are full of people, everybody bumps into each other. There are old tramways (in the first picture) that goes through all the city. I went to three different areas : the first one was quite poor, streets are dirty … The second was above all composed of Chinese people, there were many Chinese shops. The third area was the English area, with English shops.
To conclude, visiting a country which has a very different culture is very rewarding. I keep very great memories of this travel.
